BJD Bento Series
Tips & Info

Here are a few common scenarios I've run into, and some answers/solutions for you!

Q: AHH! I have two sets of eyes and eyebrows, help!
A: You're using the wrong head for your texture, my friend! Omega UV and BJD UV mean textures sit differently on the mesh. You can use both, but make sure you're using the version of the head that you need!

Not using the correct UV map can also result in makeup textures seemingly not applying, or eyelashes looking like the image on the right.

I chose to include both UV maps to make old appliers usable, while tapping into the pool of things that have been made for Omega. I think it's a great way to get the most out of your head. Unfortunately, two different maps require different sets of textures. This guy does a great job at explaining what UV maps are in a bit more detail.

Q: How do I fit this to the Kuroo body??
A: Make sure your body is version 1.5 or above. In the BJD Appearance HUD, swap the head's neck type to Female. Next, open your Kuroo body HUD. Swap that neck to female. Should match up pretty close. Alternatively, use the universal neck.

A lot of my customers use the Kuroo body--and earlier versions of the body had some incompatibility in the neck. Krankhaus added some neat stuff like toe poses too, so make sure you update! Also, if you like the anime boy look, definitely give this body a try. It's very generously priced for what's in the box.

Tip: The Kuroo body is made to be worn with a female base shape. If you like the face of the male shape that comes with your head, just swap its gender.

Q: Can I use older BJD head appliers with this head?
A: You cannot use BJD 1&2 appliers--but you CAN use 3&4! The only difference is the neck may be oddly shaded, since the old heads did not have one. I recommend using the Universal Neck to help hide this issue.

Q: I can't get Omega appliers to work!!
A: Make sure you've purchased the L$99 Omega activator, and activated your mesh with it!
Make sure you're using the correct version of your head (that has the omega layers where it should be; for example Omega Skin, if you are using an omega skin).

I find that sometimes literally just button smashing an omega applier will kick it into submission.

Q: My eyebrows/eye shadow keep disappearing!
A: This is due to a Second Life bug. If you wear two layers of alpha blending on top of each other, it'll glitch.

I tested it using several methods--but it all boils down to this: It works about 50% of the time. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Recommended Fix: Make your eyelashes and/or eyeliner alpha masking, so you can wear an alpha blending eyeshadow under :3

For eye shadows that extend over the brow area, it's recommended you use a skin that has eyebrows underneath.

Alpha masking will keep things from clipping, but will leave you with sharp, jagged edges. I find this works okay for things with sharp edges, like eyeliner or lipstick, but completely destroys blended out things like eyeshadow or blush. Combine your alpha modes wisely and have fun customizing! :D

Q: My eyelashes are messing with my eye makeup!
A: This is a bug in Second Life rigged mesh that is set to alpha blending.
Fix: Make your eyelashes and/or eyeliner alpha masking, so you can wear an alpha blending eyeshadow under :3

Q: My male/female body isn't lining up perfectly with the neck!
A: To save on render weight (and tears), I only included one neck size per type. Please set the body fat to zero in your body's neck selections to get the fit as close as possible.

Q: The glossiness/environment sliders are eating/replacing my specular textures!
A: Make sure you're applying your textures through the BJD Head script (using any of the applier types provided with the head). Unfortunately, with Omega heads you'll have to use glossiness adjustments that come with that system. Remember, you can always rez it and adjust manually :)

Q: The tinting window isn't coming up!
A: Double-click the tint button, and give it a sec. Right click the HUD if it's not letting you select anything at all. \o/

Did you know?

You can mix and match omega and BJDUV pieces as you need them.

Just rez both heads on the ground, unlink the parts you want to mix/match. Then, link them together--and then last to the little cube that controls the omega head that you've rezzed (It needs to be the root). Before picking it up and wearing (or testing), type this into chat: /689 bjd fixtext

It should spam you with a bunch of text--that means it worked!

Do not rename any parts if you're doing this.

Keep in mind adding extra layers only ups your avatar complexity!

Yes, this can be used to swap out the human teeth for BJD Bento Shark or Fang teeth--just change their name to BJD_Teeth before you link them to the head.

You can manually tint the "Tint Me" button on the tint popup to select your color via the SL color picker. (Use select face).
